ART+COM studios tasked us with creating the interactive application that would animate visitors to connect with their inner animal. Each animal features a distinct movement pattern that visitors have to mimic. When successful, the visitor sees themselves transform in to the animal.

The aesthetics of the virtual animals pay tribute to the physical exhibits on site.

Our custom gesture recognition mechanism helps to distinguish nine different movement patterns. Each pattern is broken down into simple rules allowing for a high degree of flexibility in how users perform each pattern regardless of physical abilities or fitness level.

A space to explore

Helpful UI elements communicate what lies ahead.

The exhibit is designed to facilitate exploration rather than following a set script. To guide users along the way we've implemented a number of subtle hints that take into account the audience's movement and behavior.

The project presented more than a few challenges as it relied on physical interaction in a time when people were asked to physically separate.
