TLM premiered at Berlin's Haus der Kulturen der Welt in October 2023 during "Listening to the World – 100 Years of Radio." The two-day showcase revealed findings from international Bauhaus.Listening.Workshops, demonstrating how radio creates cultural spaces beyond physical borders.
RADIO GUI GUI
The platform facilitates exploration through interconnected nodes that allow for associative exploration. Each audio piece connects to others through thematic, formal or contextual relationships.
The dynamic logo features concentric circles that intersect to form moiré patterns, reflecting the convergence of radio frequencies across cultural boundaries.
3D-Viewport
Radio makes the world go round, and so does your finger. A 3D interface let's you circumnavigate the globe in a hearbeat and creates new avenues for experiencing radio projects.
Search
The search function responds instantly as users type, revealing connections and content in real-time without waiting for query submission.
Player
Audio content appears as text through real-time transcription. Read along, skip through the script and swap between line and continuous mode.
Accessibility
High contrast mode and touch keyboard options ensure the platform remains accessible to diverse audiences regardless of ability or device.
CMS
A streamlined submission system allows for organic growth with minimal administrative overhead. Editorial control remains simple while enabling community contribution.
Multilingual
The platform pairs English with any creator-selected languages, preserving authentic voices while maintaining accessibility across cultural contexts.
FM API
The architecture balances content management capabilities with responsive user experience.
WordPress serves as an invisible API layer with custom endpoints, providing structured data storage that supports our layered front-facing applications.
Three distinct Vue.js applications deliver the core functionality:
This decoupled approach enables independent optimization of each component while maintaining system cohesion.
Process
Development relied on iterative prototyping and continuous user testing.
The modular architecture supported simultaneous testing of multiple interface approaches using the same database. This experimental methodology meant abandoning several promising directions to achieve a streamlined result.
